Introduction
This
lesson was developed in the course
Teaching with WebQuests ,
a course offered by the Teacher Education Institute ".
I love teaching about Ancient Egypt because students found the
subject new – and for middle school students it’s hard to find
something they haven’t been exposed to on some level.
I also found so many concepts of geography, science, culture,
government, economics could be introduced through this culture
and applied to later civilizations.
My “discontent” with what I had done stems from the limited
resources available. I had to rely on books from the library,
old National Geographic magazines, personal resources, etc.
I found it difficult to assign research outside the classroom
because parents would hit the library, strip the shelves for
their student, and leave nothing for other students to use.
The internet would provide equitable access to resources for
my students. For those students who do not have internet
access, I would provide time before and after school or
encourage them to use the internet at the local library, or
with permission, at a friend’s home.
LEVEL OF THOUGHT: I will be targeting application/analysis
as the general level of thinking I’m trying to achieve in the project
though I will have multiple opportunities to do all levels of
Bloom’s taxonomy.
